Major Changes to Australian Apprenticeship Incentives Announced for 2026
The Australian Government has announced significant reforms to the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System, effective 1 January 2026 through 31 December 2026.

What’s Changing: New Incentive Structure
Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP)
Total Support: $15,000 per apprenticeship
- Employers receive: $5,000
- Apprentices receive: $10,000
- Focus areas: Critical sectors including housing construction and clean energy
Priority Apprenticeships
Total Support: $5,000 per apprenticeship
- Employers receive: $2,500
- Apprentices receive: $2,500
- Applies to occupations on the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List
Non-Priority Occupations
- No Commonwealth financial incentives will be available
What’s Staying the Same
- Living Away From Home Allowance continues unchanged
- Support Loans remain available
- Grandfathering protection: Apprenticeships commenced before 1 January 2026 will maintain existing arrangements
