From Sole Trader to Employer of Eigh: Kirsten Macquet’s Apprenticeship Success
After 14 years working as a paramedic, Kirsten faced an unexpected turning point in October 2020. She decided it was time for change. This decision marked the beginning of a new career in landscaping.
In October 2024, Kirsten launched Landscaping Lass. What began as a sole‑trader business quickly gained momentum.
By July 2025, Kirsten hired her first apprentice, Elke Aitolu. Two months later, she welcomed three school‑based trainees through GTO Australian Training Company.
The business continued to grow. In October 2025, Landscaping Lass transitioned to a PTY LTD company. Kirsten also welcomed a business partner to support the next phase of growth.
Growth accelerated again in January 2026. Two more apprentices joined the team, bringing the workforce to eight.
Throughout this journey, the Mas National ACT team has worked alongside Kirsten. Support began when she was a sole trader and continues today. Together with Sarah Lilley, the team helps ensure the apprenticeship program remains strong and sustainable.
Today, Landscaping Lass is a team of women succeeding in a traditionally male‑dominated industry. Their growth highlights what can be achieved through opportunity, support, and determination.
This is only the next chapter in Kirsten’s story.
